€3.5m Abtran investment brings 300 jobs

12 Apr 2010

Three hundred high-value jobs will be created over the next three years in Cork following a €3.5m investment in R&D by business process outsourcing (BPO) firm Abtran.

These 300 new jobs will encompass the areas of information technology, management, business administration, finance, resource planning and human resources, with further jobs created in providing Abtran‘s clients with finance, admin, sales and customer service.

The new jobs will be distributed amongst Abtran’s offices in both Curraheen Road and Model Farm Road in Cork and will add to the current workforce of 1,000.

Previous investment in R&D

Today’s job announcement follows the €6m investment made in R&D last year – backed by Enterprise Ireland – that created more than 250 jobs in Abtran’s Learning and Innovation Centre at the time.

Speaking at the announcement, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation Batt O’Keeffe TD, said Abtran’s creation of 300 new jobs was a “significant research and development investment which is well-aligned with the Government’s vision for the smart economy”.

“Companies such as Abtran are at the forefront of innovation, creating jobs and the products and services of tomorrow by opening new markets and driving our export sales footprint across the globe,” said O’Keeffe.

Managing director of Abtran, Michael Fitzgerald, said that in focusing on R&D Abtran has enhanced its capacity to innovate with better services that have been “a key driver in our growth to date”.

“We have established a network of business, academic, commercial and public sector interests to create banks of expertise around service delivery to customers and citizens,” he added.
