Taoiseach Enda Kenny is due in Galway this afternoon for the official opening of the BioWare Ireland customer service and operations centre.
The facility will employ 200 people, 100 of whom are believed to already have been taken on.
BioWare Ireland is a division of global entertainment giant Electronic Arts (EA). The Galway facility is intended to provide BioWare with greater proximity to European players of its games, which include Star Wars: The Old Republic, Dragon Age: Origin, and Wrath of Heroes.
When announcing the decision in May of last year, Dr Ray Muzyka, senior vice-president, EA, and group general manager, BioWare, said Galway gave the company the right mix of solid technology infrastructure and international recruitment opportunities.
Barry O’Leary, CEO of IDA Ireland, said at the time: “EA joins a vibrant digital media sector and is a key endorsement of the skills and expertise available in Ireland for this sector.”
