Career Zoo is set to take place in the Convention Centre Dublin later this month, and the event director is hopeful there will be thousands of jobs on offer, with a section devoted to the tech industry.
“We anticipate that employers will be actively recruiting for approximately 4,000 professional jobs on the day across a variety of different sectors and we would encourage people to bring along their CVs,” said Brian Ó hOisín, director of the event that will take place on 22 September.
The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton, TD, launched the one-day event for graduates and qualified professionals today and the organisers predict there will be full-time jobs available in IT, pharmaceutical and biomedical, engineering, sales, finance, multilingual roles, HR, marketing, management, as well as internship opportunities.
Career Zoo is an important event which will bring together the companies in these sectors with large numbers of vacancies with the skilled professionals who can fill those roles,” Bruton said. “I commend all those involved and hope that the event later this month can be the start of a new phase for hundreds of businesses and thousands of job seekers.”
Recruitment, upskilling and career advice
More than 100 multinational and Irish businesses will have a presence at the event – including event sponsors Microsoft, Amazon, and Hays Recruitment, as well as Twitter, EMC Ireland, Telefónica Ireland, AOL, Accenture, Deloitte, Ericsson and Johnson & Johnson.
As well as recruitment opportunities, attendees will also be able to meet with representatives from education and training institutes, such as DIT, UCD Smurfit School, Trinity School of Business, Innopharma Labs and Skillnets, to discuss upskilling into growth areas like IT or pharmaceuticals. There will also be experts on hand to give advice to job seekers and would-be entrepreneurs interested in starting their own businesses.
The Tech Box
Those seeking employment in the tech sector will be encouraged to visit the Tech Box for career workshops and advice, or to speak to the big names in tech, like Microsoft. “On the day, Microsoft will be running an Apps Factory to demonstrate the skills required in this area but also to highlight the business potential there is in app development,” said Paul Rellis, managing director of Microsoft Ireland.
“In addition, Microsoft employees will be demonstrating the innovative work that they do in Ireland. For the past three years, Microsoft has been named Best Place to Work. We want to show people how true that is and encourage them to pursue a career path with us,” he added.
IT’s Happening Here, a campaign supported by Enterprise Ireland, will also be at Career Zoo, promoting some 1,500 career opportunities in the Irish software sector, while the Irish Research Council will be holding its annual symposium for about 500 PhD and post-doctoral researchers at the event.
Career Zoo takes place on 22 September in the Convention Centre Dublin from 10am to 6pm. Admission is free of charge but attendees are encouraged to register online.
