Online auction giant eBay Inc is expanding its operations in Ireland and creating 450 new jobs within its customer services team at its operations centre in Dundalk, Co Louth.
These new roles, supported by Ireland’s Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland, will help provide the growing European customer base of eBay’s Marketplaces and PayPal businesses with a better experience in sales, compliance, and customer services.
An Taoiseach Enda Kenny, TD, said the fact global technology leaders like eBay and eBay-owned PayPal are expanding their operations on Irish soil shows Ireland has the local talent pool, infrastructure and business environment to attract high-quality investments.
The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton, TD, added that every job created by a multinational company in Ireland creates about one extra job elsewhere in the domestic economy.
“Key to the Government’s plans for jobs and growth is seeking to attract more jobs and investment from the strong base of world-leading multinationals we have built in Ireland,” Burton said.
“Today’s announcement that global technology leaders eBay and PayPal are creating 450 additional jobs in a regional location is great news for Dundalk, the north-east and for Ireland. Through Action Plan for Jobs 2013 we will build on recent successes to attract more multinational investment and create the jobs we need.”
eBay Inc first established in Ireland in 2003 and now employs 2,300 people across its eBay and PayPal facilities in Blanchardstown, Dublin, and a facility at Dundalk Business Campus in Dundalk, Co Louth.
The company’s operations in Ireland provide various support functions to its growing customer base across the EMEA region.
Barry O’Leary, CEO of IDA Ireland, said today’s announcement of a further investment by eBay Inc in Ireland demonstrates Ireland’s capability at the core of the digital economy and further secures the country’s reputation as the internet capital of Europe.
“The scale of the investment in a key regional location is a strategic win for Ireland and it demonstrates the confidence a global leader, such as eBay, has in Ireland’s skills availability and business environment.”
