Swedish communications giant Ericsson is to create 120 new jobs at its operations in Dublin and Athlone. Recruitment for the 120 positions to complement the existing workforce of 1,400 people begins immediately.
As well as being one of the largest communications equipment makers, Ericsson is also the fifth largest software company in the world.
The jobs news came as part of a jobs bonanza revealed by IDA Ireland with the additional news German software giant SAP is to create 260 positions in Dublin and Galway.
The jobs being created are highly skilled roles encompassing software developers, solution architects, consultants and programme managers. A number of these roles are in Ericsson’s recently acquired TV business unit, Mediaroom.

“Ireland is a major research and development hub for Ericsson globally. We have a track record of ingenuity, with 87 patents developed in Ireland over the past five years.”

Ericsson is one of the longest-standing technology companies to base itself in Ireland, establishing its first operation here in 1957.
The company employs 1,400 people in Ireland spread across R&D and global services and sales in Dublin and Athlone.
“ICT is a sector which we have specifically targeted as part of our Action Plan for Jobs, and we have put in place measures to support jobs growth in this area,” Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton, TD, said.
“In recent years, we have seen jobs growth in this sector, and I am determined to keep making the changes to support further growth in the coming years.”
Some 40pc of the world’s mobile traffic is carried over Ericsson’s mobile networks.
