Joel Theodros, part of the EMEA sales team at Dropbox, tells us why he chose Ireland as a place to live and work, and how he has made friends for life.
Where are you from?
I am Ethiopian but was born in Italy and grew up in Los Angeles, California. I moved to Ireland in June 2014.
Why did you move here?
In one word: Dropbox. The opportunity to work at a world-class company that’s not just leading but redefining the cloud space was too good to pass up. The icing on the cake was that I would get the opportunity to work with some of the smartest and most humble people you’ll ever meet.
What work do you do?
I work in sales for Dropbox for Business and manage a book of clients here in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Our growth here in EMEA has been nothing short of spectacular and I am excited to be a part it.
How would you describe your working environment?
We’re experiencing a tonne of growth and that makes things very exciting. No two days are the same and there’s always something new and fun happening. It’s a collaborative environment full of amazing people. What do you like most about your job?

Was it difficult to adjust to living and working in Ireland?
While the weather isn’t as sunny as California, you’re surrounded by a tonne of natural beauty here in Ireland.
What surprised you about moving to Ireland?
What surprised me most was how close everything is. In 30 minutes you can go from the city centre to the Wicklow Mountains and feel like you’re a million miles away.
How does your working life help to make you feel at home here?
The people at Dropbox are amazing and we often hang out outside of work at concerts or even travel abroad together.
What do you like most about your adopted home?
The people of Ireland are what I like most about my adopted home. If you’ve made friends with an Irish person, you’ve got a friend for life.
