E-commerce and cloud giant Amazon is to create 300 new jobs in Dublin. The highly-skilled roles, including data centre technicians and software engineers, will be based at Amazon’s new offices in Ballsbridge.
Amazon is now ten years in Dublin after establishing a presence back in 2004.
The company has since invested more than €1.5bn in the local economy.
Amazon has expanded its presence in the city with over 100,000 square feet of office space.
The first jobs in Ireland for Amazon were data centre technicians and networking staff and since then the business has seen dramatic growth both in the numbers of staff and the diversity of roles.
Dublin has also been a location for the engineering of new technologies that support a number of Amazon’s businesses including its retail operations, devices and Amazon Web Services.
Creativity and strong technical talent
“Amazon has been an active contributor to the Dublin technology community for a decade and during this time, we have been extremely impressed with the creativity and strong technical talent available in the country,” said Dr Werner Vogels, chief technology officer, Amazon.com.
“We recognise that some of the greatest technology minds in the world can be found in Europe and we are looking for some of these talented people to join our rapidly growing team. By expanding our presence in Dublin we will further accelerate the growth of some of the most exciting businesses we have at Amazon and support for our customers here in Europe and around the globe.”
The new, highly skilled roles currently being recruited for include: software development engineers; network development engineers; data centre engineering; support engineers; technical account managers; systems engineers; Kindle field quality engineers; security specialists; technical managers; and many more.
“Creating a further 300 jobs in addition to their current workforce of 1,400 is a huge vote of confidence in their highly skilled Irish workforce and the talent pool that is now available to them in Ireland,” said IDA Ireland chief executive Martin Shanahan.
Amazon also has offices in Cork employing over 800 customer service and seller support staff.
