Axway acquires cloud firm Vordel – plan to govern data at enterprise edge
Dublin-headquartered cloud software and security company Vordel has been acquired by New York Stock Exchange-listed Axway for an undisclosed sum. It is understood that Axway paid for Vordel entirely in cash.
Axway plans to combine its leadership in MFT, B2B and integration with Vordel’s leadership in API management, SOA governance and identity management to provide businesses with a full suite of enterprise services.
Axway CEO Christophe Fabre said the new suite of offerings will change the dynamic of the enterprise edge, extending to cloud integration, mobile access, legacy data and innovative identity solutions.
“By choosing the right approach to integration, CIOs and enterprise architects can save their organisations money and help ensure the success of their integration projects across the enterprise and into the cloud,” Fabre said.
“Together, Axway and Vordel align to enable that vision. The breadth of the combined Axway-Vordel platform will now provide companies with a single consolidated approach to their application and data integration needs - across on-premise and cloud environments.”
Ambitious Irish cloud powerhouse
In June, Siliconrepublic.com reported on how Vordel made its most ambitious leaps forward yet with an entire API server for the enterprise that will allow organisations to deploy APIs to the cloud and mobile device channels.
The new API server goes beyond pure security - it allows businesses to deploy APIs and apps across the enterprise that could drive revenue growth.
"I am delighted that Vordel is to become part of the Axway family. There is a natural synergy between the two companies, and our respective customers will benefit enormously from this combination of technologies,” Vordel’s CEO Vic Morris said.
“This is a new beginning for Vordel, and will ensure continued development and support of the Vordel API Server while also benefiting from the momentum that Axway will provide. As we move forward together, new Axway products will be delivered which will incorporate the strengths of both the Axway and Vordel product suites and enable Axway to further enhance its position as a market leader,” Morris added.
A spokesperson told Siliconrepublic.com that the acquisition of Vordel will be 100pc in cash funded by its existing bank credit line.
The transaction is expected to close within the quarter.
Paris-headquartered Axway is a software publisher with more than 11,000 clients in 100 countries.
