The first 4G LTE services to go live in the UK will be launched on 30 October by Everything Everywhere, a joint venture between Orange and T-Mobile.
The move follows Ofcom’s declaration that all 4G services will be available across the UK by the end of June 2013.
Everything Everywhere (EE) will go live in 10 cities on 30 October, including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff and Bristol, followed by six more by the end of the year.
By the end of 2012, Everything Everywhere’s 4G services will cover one-third of the UK’s population.
“We are delighted to announce that the official launch of our new customer brand, EE, offering the UK’s first super-fast mobile 4G and fibre broadband service, will take place on 30 October 2012,” EE’s CEO Olaf Swantee said today.
“This is a significant milestone for the UK, and for the people and businesses of our country who will now be able to enjoy the huge advantages of super-fast 4G technology for the first time.
“We are very proud to be pioneering, innovating and leading our industry in launching 4G for our nation through our new EE brand,” Swantee said.
In tandem with the launch of the network, the company said that the first 4G-compatible smartphones will go on sale today, including the Samsung Galaxy S III LTE, the HTC One XL and Huawei Ascend P1 LTE.
The company also added the Samsung Galaxy Note II LTE will be available on its network from 15 October.
