Sony brings 3D photos to PS3

22 Sep 2010

Sony, along with releasing support for 3D on the PlayStation 3, has added the ability to view 3D images on the console and 3D-enabled TVs.

PlayMemories is an app that allows users organise and view 3D stills captured by 3D-compatible cameras, such as Sony’s NEX-5/NEX-3, Cyber-shot WX5 and Cyber-shot TX9.

It will be available for download in late September for free from the PlayStation Store and allows users to zoom and select pictures using a controller.

Yesterday, Sony released new firmware update that brings 3D Blu-ray support and Facebook integration to the PlayStation 3.

Sony’s introduction of 3D services on PS3 aligns with its aims to sell 2.5 million 3D-equipped television sets this year alone and plans to expand this technology from high-end to mid-market TVs.
