Facebook has released data showing that over the past year its 500 million users uploaded more than 2.7 million photographs, shared one million links and ‘Liked’ 7.6 million pages every 20 minutes.
Top of those ‘Likes’ was Lady Gaga, who closes 2010 with 24.7 million ‘Likes’ on Facebook, having been the first living person to reach 10 million over the summer.
US rapper Eminem comes a close second, with more than 23.7 million ‘Likes’ whilst Barack Obama, who used Facebook during his election campaign, closes the year with more than 17.2 million ‘Likes’ from people across the world.
Love and life on Facebook
Judging by Facebook relationship statuses more than 61 million people were lucky in love last year.
During 2010 28.4 million people changed their statuses to ‘in a relationship’, 36.7 million people changed their status to ‘married’ and 6 million people declared themselves to be ‘engaged’.
“As 2010 draws to a close this data provides a window into the lives of the millions of people around the world who use Facebook everyday to share their lives, feelings and interests with friends,” Sophy Silver, Head of Press and PR for Facebook in the UK and Ireland explained.
“The huge number of photos, links and statuses posted on Facebook every 20 minutes proves just how much the internet has changed the way we interact with our friends, making it easier for us stay in touch or share our interests, with Facebook being at the centre of that change in 2010.”
