Musician and composer Brian Eno has revealed he created the start-up theme for Windows 95 on a computer … an Apple Mac computer.

Eno told the BBC’s The Museum of Curiosity that Microsoft had hired him to create possible themes for the operating system.

The company provided him with a list of adjectives the four-second tune should convey, including sexy, driving, nostalgic and provocative, and thus Eno took to an Apple Mac to compose the music.

Eno created 83 pieces of music for Microsoft to choose from, before adding the winning theme.

“I wrote it on a Mac,” he said. “I’ve never used a PC in my life; I don’t like them.”
