Belfast native and double Oscar-nominated screenwriter and director Terry George has just received another Oscar nomination for his and Oorlagh George’s film The Shore, in the Live Action Short Film category.
The Shore is among five nominees in the category with the Oscar winner set to be announced at the 84th Annual Academy Awards ceremony on 26 February in Los Angeles.
The Shore tells the story of two boyhood best friends – ‘Joe’ (Ciarán Hinds) and ‘Paddy’ (Conleth Hill) – divided by 25 years of misunderstanding. The conflict escalating in Northern Ireland shatters their world and the two boys’ lives take different paths until, 25 years later, Joe returns for the first time to his homeland with his 24-year-old daughter, Patricia.
The film, partly funded by Lough Shore Investments and produced in association with Northern Ireland Screen & Tourism Ireland, was shot entirely on location in Coney Island, Co Down.
Terry George has been nominated for two Oscars: Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium in 1993 for In the Name of the Father and Best Writing, Original Screenplay for Hotel Rwanda in 2004.
This is the first Oscar nomination for Oorlagh George.
