Samsung Galaxy Note ‘phablet’ to go on sale tomorrow

The Samsung Galaxy Note

Is it a phone, is it a tablet? We’re not sure ourselves so we call it a ‘phablet’! It’s too big to be a smartphone and too small to be a tablet, but the full tech firepower of Samsung’s latest technology will be unleashed tomorrow (Thursday) when the Galaxy Note goes on sale.

The Android Gingerbread device – with its large, 5.3-inch display, comes with a pen that allows users to write or draw onto the screen, put annotations on maps, web pages, photos and more.

We had a play with it last week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, and have to admit it caused a bit of a stir at the Samsung stand. Worth mentioning in particular is its Super AMOLED screen, which, because of the screen size, makes it no ordinary handset.

Also worth noting is the likelihood of 10.1-inch versions hitting the market soon, as plenty of the Galaxy Note 10.1-inch tablets were on display in Barcelona.

The new 5.3-inch device comes with a new pen-input technology enigmatically titled the S Pen, which plays a role in capturing content and manipulating the screen.

The HSPA+ device comes with a 1.4GHz dual-core processor and Samsung claims it is its fastest handset to date.

The Galaxy Note will be available on the Vodafone network in Ireland for €99 as part of a 24-month contract.
