Apple unveiled the new iPad – simply called ‘iPad’ – which will have a Retina Display, LTE connectivity and an A5X chip with quad core graphics. It also revealed the next version of its Apple TV, with a revamped UI.
iPad
The new iPad will have Retina Display, with a 2,048 x 1536 resolution display. It offers 264ppi on the iPad screen and has 44pc better colour saturation than the iPad 2.
It runs on an A5X chip with quad core graphics and voice dictation, which lets users speak into their iPads to type a message. Voice dictation supports UK English, US English, Australian English, Japanese, German and French.
Its rear-facing camera has a 5-megapixel sensor which offers backside illumination, a 5-element lens, a hybrid IR filter, auto focus and face detection. It can also film 1080p footage.
It will provide 4G LTE connectivity with speeds of up to 73Mbps. It also offers HSPA+ connectivity of up to 21Mbps and DC-HSDPA connectivity of 41Mbps.
As with the iPad 2, the next iPad comes with a 10-hour battery life. It comes in black and white in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models.
The new iPad will be available in Ireland on 23 March, costing from US$499.
Additionally, Apple will keep the iPad 2 in its line of products, pricing it from US$399.
Apple TV
The new Apple TV has a new interface and supports full HD 1080p resolution. Apple says it will offer TV shows the day after they air and can gain access to the iTunes music library.
It offers a range of apps from other content providers, such as Netflix and Vimeo.
The Apple TV now has a photo stream interface. Photos taken on iOS devices automatically appear on this stream and can be displayed in 1080p.
iOS users can also stream content to the Apple TV through AirPlay.
Genius has been built into Apple TV and it recommends movies based on what has already been watched.
Apple TV will be available for €109 and will go on sale on 16 March.
Apple sales

Apple sold 15.4m iPads last quarter and it claims this is more than any PC sold from rival companies during the same period.
