The new Canon EOS 650D camera
The new Canon EOS 650D comes with an adjustable touchscreen LCD display, enhanced auto focus and new shooting modes for novice photographers.
Introduced by Canon UK & Ireland today, the EOS 650D is an entry-level DSLR with new functions designed to assist those taking their first steps into serious digital photography.
Packing an 18MP APS-C Hybrid CMOS sensor, this is the first entry-level EOS to feature DIGIC 5 14-bit image processing. This combination promises greater speed, responsiveness and advanced colour rendition, capturing full-resolution images at up to five frames per second.
The EOS 650D also comes with a 3-inch touchscreen Clear View LCD II display that supports a variety of gestures, such as pinch and swipe. You can use touch controls to browse images, adjust settings, select focus points, and even capture a shot using the screen alone. The vari-angle hinge lets you angle and tilt the screen to suit the situation while sharp 1,040k-dot resolution gives you a clear view of every detail.
Intelligent features for beginners
When just starting off, users can select Scene Intelligent Auto mode to simply point and shoot and let the camera do all the work in selecting the right settings. As users become more confident, they can makes use of the Basic+ mode that lets you go beyond basic automatic settings with a range of presets to instantly alter the mood of a shot.
Taking shots in low-light situations has been made easier with a native 100-12, 800 ISO range, which can be expanded to ISO 25,600. There are also two new modes to tackle tricky lighting. HDR Backlight Control handles brightly-backlit scenes by capturing three different exposures (under, correctly, and over-exposed) and combining them into one HDR image displaying highlight and shadow detail. Handheld Night Scene, meanwhile, makes it easier to capture low-light evening shots with no tripod, rapidly shooting four different images before combining them into one detailed, blur-free picture.
Hybrid auto-focus for HD video recording
The 650D is the first EOS to feature a dual auto-focus system that makes sharp focus simple, whether in still shooting or video mode. The nine-point wide-area AF system allows for precision accuracy when shooting action or wildlife, while Hybrid AF offers continuous tracking of subjects during HD video recording.
Pairing the EOS 650D with the new virtually silent stepper motor lenses (EF-18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM and EF 40mm f/2.8 STM) means your videos can be smooth and clear, and an integrated mini-HDMI makes it easy to send them straight to TV.
You can even edit video in-camera using Video Snapshot mode, which records two, four or eight-second segments and then combines or reorders them to create fast-paced videos.

The EOS 650D will be in stores from 15 June, priced at €839.99 (RRP). For a limited period up to 31 August, early customers at participating retailers will get a Canon 300EG camera bag free with their purchase of the EOS 650D.
