The Dublin Web Summit launches today with a line-up of 10 top female entrepreneurs, highlighting the growing presence and influence of women in tech.
“People have asked us, ‘Where are all the female entrepreneurs in tech?’ and the answer is, there simply aren’t many as compared to men, and in particular at the highest levels,” said Dublin Web Summit founder Paddy Cosgrave. “But – and this is important – things are changing, and changing fast.”
To reflect this changing tide, the launch of the annual tech event puts the spotlight on 10 incredibly successful female entrepreneurs, including controversial TED speaker Cindy Gallop.
Gallop headed up BBH advertising in the US and is now the founder of MakeLoveNotPorn. Soraya Dorabi, who was previously head of social media at the New York Times; Shauna Mei, founder and CEO of luxury shopping network AHAlife.com; and renowned science speaker Deborah Berebichez are also on the list of what will amount to more than 200 speakers at the two-day event in October.
“Now more than ever there are incredible female entrepreneurs in tech, and that number is growing and growing fast, in particular at early stage,” Cosgrave said.
“We hope in some small way that we either help set a precedent for other conferences or at the very least simply highlight that there are actually some female tech entrepreneurs,” he added.
Cosgrave expects to see 3,000 tech enthusiasts descend on the Irish capital for the summit, coming from across Europe and even further afield.
