The MiPad by Xiaomi
Indicating the demand at one of the fastest-growing tech companies in the world, Xiaomi, the company has sold a record 50,000 units of its MiPad tablet computer online in less than four minutes.
The Chinese company has proven its worth as a lower-cost Android alternative to major players such as Apple and Samsung, having recently shown that between mid-2014 and mid-2013, its mobile handset sales have increased 271pc.
Ubergizmo reported that the MiPad’s Tegra K1 quad-core 2.2GHz processor and 7.9-inch screen is proving to be a successful alternative to Apple’s own iPad mini.
The MiPad also comes with 2GB of RAM and with storage capacity of either 16GB or 64GB, which can be expanded with a micro SD card.
Given that the MiPad is first available in its native China, the figure of 50,000 represents its own market but as it expands internationally this could eventually result in similar sales.
The difference in price from its competitors is considerable, by more than €100, with the 16GB version retailing for 1,499 yuan (€177) and the 64GB version going for 1,699 yuan (€200).
