Even though five days remain until tech giant Apple possibly reveals a new iPhone – which probably wouldn’t go on sale until later this month – people are already queuing up outside Apple’s flagship store in New York City.
Granted, some of the individuals are leveraging the media attention the early queues are generating by promoting their own companies, MacRumors reported.
Two representatives of electronics re-seller BuyBackWorld, Brian Ceballo and Joseph Cruz, were first in the queue until two people paid them US$1,250 for their places in the queue. Ceballo had been camped out since Sunday.
Business Insider confirmed with an Apple Store employee that there were indeed people waiting outside.
“They’re out there and they don’t even know what they’re waiting for yet,” he said. “We haven’t announced anything.”
Apple is holding a press event at 10am Pacific Time on 9 September, at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of De Anza College in Cupertino, California.
The company is expected to reveal the so-called iPhone 6 smartphone in two iterations: a 4.7-inch size and 5.5-inch size, and possibly a new smartwatch, the so-called iWatch.
If a new iPhone is unveiled, those waiting for it in the queue in New York City may have to wait 10 days before it becomes available in stores, going by previous Apple releases.
