Internet pokes fun at iPhone 6’s alleged bendability

26 Sep 2014

Apple may have finally moved to assure iPhone 6 Plus users that its sparkly new device is not going to bend if they happen to have a propensity for pocketing it while wearing skinny jeans, but that hasn’t stopped the internet going to work on the sought-after smartphone.

Almost immediately after its release last week, reports began to emerged that the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus was, much like a piece of Uri Geller cutlery, prone to bending. Videos even emerged online to demonstrate how the mostly aluminium device could be bent out of shape under pressure.

However, Apple has dismissed the reports, claiming it has received only nine complaints from customers so far, out of 10m devices sold. Still, there has been a wave of memes and gags doing the social media rounds that poke fun at the rumours. Even Samsung has weighed in, tweeting that its Galaxy Note Edge device is ‘Curved. Not bent’.

Available in the US and UK and other large markets since last Friday, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus goes on sale in Ireland today. Meanwhile, here’s some of our favourite bendy pics.
