Pinterest is to add a ‘Buy’ button to its site via a deal with e-payments company Stripe that will allow users to purchase products they discover on the online scrapbook.
According to Re/code, the new feature could be rolled out sometime in the next six months, with Pinterest close to an agreement with Stripe, the company founded by Limerick brothers Patrick and John Collison.
Pinterest executive Joanne Bradford declined to comment directly on the report. Instead the company said, “Part of our strategy to help people discover new things, save them, and do these things in real life has always been to make Pins more useful.”
Stripe is said to be working on a similar project with Facebook that would allow consumers to purchase goods featured in ads or posts on the social network. No official announcement has been made, however.
It has been a busy week for Pinterest. Just yesterday, it was revealed the company had made a deal with consumer tech giant Apple, whereby specific App Pins will allow people to buy apps without leaving the site.
Both Apple and Pinterest have created the new App Pin that lets users install apps they’ve discovered through Pinterest recommendations without having to go to the App Store. A blue ‘Install’ button will appear alongside the standard ‘Pin it’ button to show users the app can be installed with a few taps.
