Science Gallery Dublin will be hosting Dublin’s first Mini Maker Faire on 14 July during its Hack the City exhibition. People have until 15 March to submit their ideas for the day-long community event, which will give makers an opportunity to showcase their work.
The event itself will be coinciding with the Euroscience Open Forum conference that will be taking place in Dublin next July as part of Dublin City of Science.
Ian Brunswick, events and community manager, at Science Gallery Dublin, which is based at Trinity College Dublin, said makers can be tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, science clubs, students, authors or commercial exhibitors.
“Anyone with a do-it-yourself attitude to technology. Individuals, groups, schools and organisations are all invited to apply,” he said.
Mini Maker Faire will also incorporate stalls, talks and workshops and is already supported by Dublin City of Science, NUI Maynooth, TOG, and Irish Robotics Club.
Brunswick said the Mini Maker Faire will also need volunteers, equipment, financial support, workshop leaders and exhibitors.
The first ever Maker Faire was held in San Mateo, California, and just celebrated its sixth annual Bay-Area event with some 100,000 people in attendance. It expanded to Detroit and New York City in 2010.
