VisionID, a Tipperary-based mobile computing specialist, is targeting Ireland’s manufacturing and pharma industry with a new innovation – a wireless computer on wheels, otherwise known as COW. The company is also planning to increase its headcount from 21 to 25 as a result of anticipated demand for the device.
VisionID teamed up with the UK product design company RPD to create the new COW units that are specifically targeted for manufacturing and pharmaceutical firms. Already, companies such as EMC and Janssen Biologistics have tried out the new innovation, according to VisionID.
It seems the COW unit features all of the components of a desk but instead operates as a movable, ergonomic workstation, which can be configured to suit individual customers’ needs.
VisionID’s sales director Cathal Murtagh said the response from industry to COW so far has been encouraging. As a result, he said the company is planning to expand its workforce in Clonmel from 21 to 25 in anticipation of a surge in demand.
“Our COW offers a wireless solution around the factory floor, using real-time communication through Wi-Fi on a choice of thin client, touch computer, laptop or full desktop PC. All are powered from the base battery pack, giving six hours operational time after a full charge,” he said.
