Ireland is one of 20 new countries that can now buy and sell paid apps on the Android Market.
The Android platform has been growing at a huge rate and now Irish developers and app fans can get in on the market.
Other countries that have been given this access include Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Sweden and Taiwan.
Another 18 additional countries will be able to purchase paid apps over the next two weeks, Google has said.
The Android OS is predicted to become the No 2 mobile operating system in the world. According to Gartner research, both Android and Symbian will make up 59.8pc of mobile OS sales by 2014.
Another research group, iSuppli, predicts it will surpass iPhone’s iOS’ popularity by the year 2012, making this new announcement a highly lucrative opportunity for app developers.
