Web giant AOL Inc is looking into a possible tie-up with Yahoo! Inc, according to a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report.
The WSJ credits an unnamed source as the origin of the news and says AOL has retained financial advisers to do so.
The WSJ says AOL, which has held merger talks with Yahoo! in the past, has fallen short of reaching a formal proposal.
AOL and a number of venture capital firms – including Silver Lake Partners and Blackstone Group – had recently made signals they were interested in teaming up to acquire Yahoo!
Yahoo! recently announced that, in a partnership with Samsung, they will distribute Yahoo! Connected TV (YCT) across Europe.
