A Chinese supercomputer has taken top spot in the top 500 list of the world’s most powerful supercomputers, knocking Jaguar off the top.
The Chinese Tianhe-1A system at the National Supercomputer Centre in Tianjin beat the Cray Xt5 Jaguar system in the US’ Department of Energy to achieve first place in the list, according to top500.org.
With a performance level of 2.57 petaflop/s (quadrullions of calculations per second), The Tianhe-1A system performed better than the Cray XT5 Jaguar, which achieved second place with a performance of 1.75 petaflop/s running Linpack.
Another Chinese system took third place – The Nebulae – which itself was knocked off the top spot from the June top 500 list.
The list ranks and details the 500 most powerful known computer systems in the world that are not distributed.
