FA season kick-off match to be streamed on Facebook

17 Aug 2011

History of sorts will be made this Friday when the ‘first kick’ match between Ascot United and Wembley FC will be streamed live on Facebook.

Budweiser, the lead partner of the FA Cup, and the Football Association will broadcast the match live from the Budweiser fan page.

The 90-minute live stream will be available via an application Budweiser has built specifically for the world’s largest social network, Facebook.

Iain Newell, marketing director, Budweiser UK, said: “As a long-standing supporter of football globally, Budweiser is committed to bringing the world’s most prestigious knock-out competition closer to the fans. What better way to demonstrate this than by broadcasting the very first kick to a global audience via Facebook?

A first for social networking as match to be broadcast live

“This is the first time an FA Cup tournament fixture has been broadcast live on the social network, which is great news for football fans and clubs alike.”

The Extra Preliminary Round tie kicks off at 7.45pm at Ascot United’s Racecourse Ground with the live streaming coverage starting at 7.30pm through the Budweiser UK Facebook fan page.

Mike Harrison, chairman of Ascot United, added: “To be involved in the first game of The FA Cup this season is an honour in itself, but to be part of a world first and have our match broadcast to a massive global audience is fantastic for our club.”
