The antics of Limerick hip-hop duo Rubberbandits – including Blindboy Boat Club and Mr Chrome – are to be immortalised in a video game that will demo at the forthcoming Games Fleadh and will be released on the Apple App Store and Android Market this summer.
The game – titled The Revenge of Steven Forward – will feature various levels, including scenes from Limerick streets and estates. Rubberbandits, famed for their enigmatic songs, such as Horse Outside and I Want to Fight Your Father, are understood to have written dialogue especially for the game, which will also include the band’s music.
The game is being built by award-winning Limerick games studio Open Emotion, which develops games for the iOS, Android, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable platforms.
Open Emotion is the company behind award-winning games like Mad Blocker Alpha, which has sold 30,000 copies.
Open Emotion’s Paddy Murphy told the Games Ireland Gathering 2012 (gig2012) that the Rubberbandits game was originally written for the Xbox 360 but the band insisted it go out as an iPhone app and Android app.
“It will demo at the Games Fleadh in March and will be available on the App Store by mid-2012,” Murphy said.
