A new smartphone app called iGAAFan is aiming to enable GAA fans to interact with their teams at both county and club level. The Tyrone and Derry County Boards are currently trialling the app.
The free app has been developed by Wasp Solutions, a Belfast digital start-up that is directed by Karl Diamond, a former inter-county footballer for Derry.
While both the Tyrone and Derry County Boards are trialling iGAAFan, the company is aiming to roll out the app across the 32 counties.
The app has been developed for Android and iOS devices and can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play.
According to Wasp Solutions, iGAAFan will give users access to news and player line-ups, plus the latest fixtures and results. Fans will also be able to interact with one another through iGAAFan Chat and Facebook and Twitter.
Mickey Harte, manager of the Tyrone GAA football team, has endorsed the app, saying it will bring fans right to the heart of GAA action. He said the iGAAFan app promotes county-fan interaction at a whole new level by allowing spectators to share their views while a game is live.
Diamond said the app would also give clubs the scope to become more entrepreneurial as they can raise funds via iGAAFan.
