Music retailer HMV has launched a digital music store and free iOS and Android app that lets users browse, listen to, and download tracks through a blend of image search and sound search technology.
The app lets users pre-order and buy music from HMV’s digital catalogue and have it stored online to be played on Apple or Android smartphones.
Users can also buy or listen to samples of music by scanning ads, posters or CD covers in shops, or by playing tracks from the radio into their devices.
The HMV app is the first non-iTunes-based service on Apple’s iOS platform to allow the purchase of digital music downloads through a native app experience, the company said.
The HMV music app is available on iTunes and Google Play for Android.
