Product development and supply chain management services company PCH International is reportedly in early stage talks to acquire online design store Fab for an estimated US$15m in cash and stock.

PCH International, which has revenues of US$1bn a year, has been a driving force in the resurgent design and prototyping revolution.

The company, which its CEO Liam Casey founded in Cork, Ireland, has already taken a stab at e-commerce, having acquired hardware e-commerce site ShopLocket last year for an undisclosed sum.

According to TechCrunch, the potential acquisition of Fab will not include Fab founder Jason Goldberg’s new furniture design start-up, Hem.

If anything, Fab is a salutary tale about hyper valuations in the current time. A year ago, it was apparently valued at US$1bn and took in US$150m in venture capital.

Fab began three years ago as a dating site for the gay community but morphed into a flash sale site for home décor.
