Hacker attack shuts down UK serious crime agency website
The UK’s Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) has gone offline after becoming the target of a hacker attack. Ironically, SOCA has been instrumental in closing 36 websites believed to be selling stolen credit card information – a vengeance attack by cyber-criminals?
The last time SOCA came under attack from hackers - in June last year - it was mainly the doing of hacker collective LulzSec.
According to reports, the SOCA website shut down after being hit by a distributed denial of service attack (DDOS).
The site is understood to have gone offline at 10.30pm yesterday. At the time of writing it was still offline.
In March, the FBI infiltrated leadership of LulzSec and hackers in the US and the UK were arrested. Also arrested were two young Irishmen, Darren Martyn, aka, 'Pwnsauce' and Donncha O'Cearbhail, aka, 'Palladium'.
