Deepesh Somani, CRM consultant at Storm Technology, tells us why he chose Ireland as a place to live and work, and about the importance of a good working environment.
Where are you from?
I am from Indore, a city in the heart of India. India is the seventh-largest country by area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2bn people, and the most populous democracy in the world.
The thing I like most about India is the sun, the diversity of people, the travel options within the country, welcoming people and the great spicy food.
How long have you been in Ireland?
I moved to Ireland in July 2014.
Why did you move here?
I heard a lot about the friendly nature of people in Ireland, as well as hearing that it is a beautiful country to visit. Both of which, I have to say, are absolutely true.
What work do you do?
In Storm Technology I work as a CRM consultant on Microsoft Dynamics CRM products and surrounding technologies in .NET framework.
How would you describe your working environment?
The working environment in my company is very good. I always feel motivated and excited to come and work for Storm.
What do you like most about your job?
I have been engaged with various kinds of applications and technologies during a short span of time, which is something I love about my job. The feedback given from peers and management is also a thing I like about my job.
Being at the customer’s site is a thing that I enjoy because it makes me meet more people with different ideas, and sharing ideas enhances the way I work and communicate with people.
Was it difficult to adjust to living and working in Ireland?
It was difficult for me to adjust initially because I belong to a location in India where temperatures are always between 30-40°C. Working here has not been a problem but for a non-EU resident to come in Ireland is a bit difficult in terms of getting a visa and permit, it always takes more time.
What surprised you about moving to Ireland?
Seeing all weathers in a single day does surprise me, and will keep surprising me!
How does your working life help to make you feel at home here?
Work plays a major part of our life, so it is important to have a good and positive experience there. It makes me very positive if I spend a good day at work. It became even more important when I had to move so far from India. Most of the friends I have are the ones who I met at my workplace. So, it is a very important factor for me even off work hours. I can say I have friends whom I work with.
What do you like most about your adopted home?
The friendliness of people: I have to admit that Irish people are one of the friendliest and welcoming people I have met.
I also like the few days in summer when the temperature rises and it is termed as an ‘Indian summer’ – though I ought to tell you, an Indian summer nowadays goes up to around 45-48°C!
