Twitter has announced the roll out of new friend finding and two-step verification updates to its Digits service.
Launched by the social network last autumn, Digits allows developers to integrate a simple, password-free login option into third-party mobile applications as a more secure method for users to sign into apps by using their phone number.
To add another layer of security, Twitter has now added two-step verification.
“Delivering a secure experience to your users is important,” engineer Eric Frohnhoefer wrote in a blog post. “Phone-based login is more secure than traditional email or social-based login – and two-step verification takes it a step further.”
In addition, friend finding will now allow programmers to create a social graph in their apps by uploading users’ contact lists to help them find people they know who are using the same application, or be alerted when a friend joins later.
Just last week Twitter unveiled new safety features to help tackle impersonation, self-harm and the ‘sharing of private and confidential information’.
The updates are the latest safety-focused additions the company has announced following an overhaul of how it processes user reports.
