We’re constantly hearing about jobs available in IT, but what positions in this sector are most in-demand? The IT Alliance’s Resourcing Services division surveyed nearly 200 vacant positions at the end of January 2013 to find out.
IT Alliance Resourcing Services is the technology staff resourcing division of the IT Alliance Group and was launched last year for Irish and UK business markets. It provides temporary contractors, permanent placements and executive search services for hard-to-fill positions, from project managers to CIOs and CTOs.
The recent survey shows that support jobs have overtaken project manager roles as the most in-demand IT positions, and positions available for technical architects, network engineers (including demand for Cisco and Microsoft certification) and helpdesk staff have also bolstered demand across the infrastructure space.
“There is always strong demand for software engineers and project managers but the fact that desktop and infrastructure support vacancies head the list of current vacancies suggests that business is investing again in its IT systems, which is positive news for the economy,” said Frank O’Beirne, head of IT Alliance Resourcing Services.
Most wanted by IT Alliance Resourcing Services clients are candidates with experience in desktop and core infrastructure support (16pc), followed by network engineering (11pc), testing (10pc), project management (9pc), IT roles with a language (9pc) and software development (7pc).
“A notable trend this year is the demand for those with IT skills combined with a language,” O’Beirne commented. “We are also seeing healthy demand for those who have a foreign language and experience in areas such as digital marketing, customer operations and support. This may reflect the success of the IDA in attracting international companies to establish their European headquarters in Ireland.”
