Eircom crews will be working throughout the weekend to repair faults severe weather caused this past week, with Wednesday night’s lightning storms in parts of Ireland resulting in 3,000 reported faults yesterday alone.
The telecoms operator said today the bad weather has affected both broadband and telephone services, causing ‘extensive’ damage, and more than 5,800 faults now on the Eircom network.
Some 1,700 customers had their services restored yesterday, bringing to 6,500 the number of faults Eircom crews have repaired since Monday.
Wednesday night’s lightning storms particularly lashed counties Cork, Clare, Mayo, Galway, Carlow, Wexford, Kilkenny, and South Kerry, and weather conditions remain difficult, especially in rural and uplands areas, Eircom said.
“The damage to our network is extensive and widespread with most parts of the country impacted,” Eircom said.
“All available technicians have been diverted onto fault repairs and crews will continue to carry out repair work throughout the weekend.
“We are making every possible effort to restore service to customers who are currently experiencing a disruption to their telephone and broadband service.”
Customers are reminded, where possible, to log faults on the ‘Log a Fault’ section of Eircom’s website, or through its automated customer service line 1901. Faults can be reported to either service 24 hours a day, seven days week.
