CarTrawler has been named software company of the year at the annual Irish software awards, hosted by the Irish Software Association (ISA).

Jay Bregman, Hailo’s co-founder, spoke at the event that saw CarTrawler – a company that connects travel industry brands with car rental agencies – awarded the top gong.

Founding partner of the venture capital firm, Frontline Ventures, Shay Garvey was named ISA Person of the Year.

Fenergo was acknowledged for outstanding achievement in international growth, while Intel won an award for multinational corporation initiative of the year.

Edel Creely, MD of Trilogy Technologies and chair of ISA, said: “We need to create an environment that supports companies grow and expand internationally. Ireland’s indigenous software sector has 730 companies, employing more than 12,000 people, with sales in excess of €1.9 billion every year. We are a small country, but with big ambitions.

“Recent comparisons with the UK have shown how a strong focus on delivering an environment that supports entrepreneurs helps to effectively scale companies. We have been very successful in attracting foreign direct investment, but we need to do more to make Ireland the best country in the world to build and scale an indigenous business.

“This year, we received an influx of extremely talented and worthy nominations. CarTrawler stood out for their contribution to the Irish software industry, however, the quality of entrants proves, to investors at home and abroad, that a wealth of knowledge, expertise and incentives exist in Ireland.”

Full winners of the awards are: ISA company of the year – CarTrawler; ISA person of the year – Shay Garvey; emerging company of the year – Brite:Bill; outstanding achievement in international growth – Fenergo; digital technology services project of the year – S3 Group; technology innovation of the year – Asavie Technologies; excellence in talent development – Realex Payments; multinational corporation initiative of the year – Intel Ireland; outstanding academic achievement of the year: TSSG / FeedHenry.
