Irish broadcaster RTÉ has pushed back the closing date of its long wave radio service to early next year.
RTÉ had intended to cease its service on 27 October, switching Radio One to digital-only platforms.
However, having acknowledged the window given for closure was too short, RTÉ has postponed the date to 19 January 2015.
“We know that such decisions affect audiences who enjoy and rely on RTÉ’s services,” said managing director of RTÉ Radio, Jim Jennings.
“However, we also know that the public expect us to manage our operations and services efficiently and evolve our services as technology changes and audiences adapt.
“In balancing these broad considerations, we have come to the decision that now is the right time to cease our long wave Radio 1 service after 10 years on air.”
RTÉ now plans to travel to the UK to meet organisations that can help assist a smoother transition.
