PewDiePie YouTube channel reaches audience of 351m in June alone

Video-sharing site YouTube’s most subscribed-to channel, PewDiePie, has reached the milestone of registering 351m viewers in June of this year alone.

With over 28.2m subscribers to his channel and generating an average of 8,100 views every minute, Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg is arguably the unofficial ‘king of YouTube’, according to YouTube’s biggest industry monitor, Tubefilter.

In its June report, PewDiePie’s incredible success has shown the increasing growth of ‘let’s play’ video content where gamers play popular or interesting video games and record themselves playing it with a running commentary and looking at PewDiePie alone, his view count for July 2013 has increased by over 100m with 221.6m and has increased by 13pc from May of this year.

With Google’s recent acquisition of the livestream gaming site Twitch, and masterminded by YouTube, for a little over US$1bn, the strength of this market is likely to rise significantly.

Aside from gaming, music also dominates the most-viewed content on the Google video sharing site with 24 of the top 100 video channels being made up of Vevo-backed musicians with Shakira coming in as the second-most watched person on the site at 287.9m views.

South Korean popstar Psy’s YouTube channel was June’s fastest growing sowing a month-over-month growth of 219pc in views topping out at nearly 154.4 million views in the month.
