RTÉ and UPC have reportedly entered talks following the Irish national broadcaster’s attempt to secure an injuction on the TV and broadband provider’s on-the-go streaming service.
UPC plans to launch Horizon Go across Europe this year, which will allow customers to stream TV channels to mobile devices through any viable Wi-Fi connection or mobile network. However, last week, RTÉ sought an injunction from the High Court to prevent the service from being introduced in Ireland.
The case was adjourned and both sides agreed to talks to try and resolve the issue.
According to a report from The Irish Times, the national broadcaster is seeking improved payments for its content rights before this plan goes ahead.
If launched in Ireland, Horizon Go would directly compete with Sky Go, a service from the rival TV and broadband provider which does not allow streaming of RTÉ channels.
The Horizon TV app currently available to UPC customers only allows streaming of TV channels over their home Wi-Fi connection.
