With only one more sleep until the 2014 World Cup starts in Brazil, we round up memes on the subject, the manifestation of football fans’ excitement and anxiety over the football tournament.
One would think that the World Cup making its return to one of the greatest footballing nations of all time would be a universally heralded event, yet there is a considerable number of Brazil’s countrymen and women who feel strongly that the tournament is nothing but a sideshow covering up deeper political corruption from both the Brazilian government and football’s governing body, FIFA.
And yet, millions, if not billions, of people will be tuning in this Thursday night to watch the opening game between Brazil and Croatia and then for a solid month watch matches they otherwise wouldn’t watch in a million years (Ivory Coast vs Japan at 2am Irish time springs to mind).
No doubt there will be some amazing twists and turns as the event progresses, but here are some memes to whet your appetite.
Sometimes you have to wonder how the marketing team and designers don’t notice how their designs can be misconstrued as something else.

And finally, a frustration felt by us all who will be purposefully missing out on the opening ceremony featuring the tournament’s official song sung by rapper Pitbull.
