With just hours to go until the opening ceremony of London 2012 – what is billed to be the most digital games yet – Google has created a Doodle worthy of a gold medal itself.
The latest illustration for Google’s homepage features a footballer, swimmer, runner, javelin thrower, fencer, and a stray basketball sneaking into the mix, representing the diversity of sport about to hit our screens – whether big, small, mobile or HDTV – over the next 17 days.
The opening ceremony takes place at 9pm and will attempt to showcase the UK’s finest with a cast of 15,000 performers.
More than 4bn people are expected to tune into the event, which will be directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Danny Boyle.
The theme of the opening ceremony is ‘Isles of Wonder’ and, among the host nation’s display of everything British, viewers can expect to see a parade of the world’s competing athletes and the final leg of the journey for the Olympic flame, lighting the cauldron to signal the beginning of the Games.
