Microsoft has confirmed that a new Halo film project with Alien director Ridley Scott as executive producer is in the works after a previous attempt had been shelved.
The idea of a Hollywood film to be made out of one of gaming’s most popular franchises, the Xbox’s Halo series, had previously seemed dead in the dust after the previous attempt to release a film in 2007 to be directed by District 9’s Neil Blomkamp did not come to fruition.
Now however, the new ‘digital feature’, as it is being called, will be directed by Sergio Mimica-Gezzan, who has previously directed a number of episodes of the hit sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica and will see Scott lead the project.
The news was reported by Gamespot, which received a press release featuring scant details of the project, but the reference to it being a digital feature could mean it could be an Xbox One exclusive film to tie in with one of the future games in the series.
This is not the first digital production to be based in the Halo universe. In 2012, an online series called Forward Unto Dawn was released to coincide with the launch of the latest game at that time, Halo 4.
