Viral @SochiProblems reveals best of worst in Sochi, Russia

7 Feb 2014

The #SochiProblems hashtag has inspired a new Twitter account that, after only three days, has attracted more than 200,000 followers. @SochiProblems tracks the broken, busted and baffling things journalists have encountered in Sochi, Russia, while covering the Winter Olympics.

The @SochiProblems account spun out of #SochiProblems, which began to trend on the microblogging site as members of the media tweeted thoughts and images that suggest the city may not be quite ready to host the XXII Winter Olympics.

On its Twitter page, @SochiProblems describes itself with the words, “I’m a mess, and not prepared for you! Our athletes live like Kings!” The page displays tweets about journalists being locked in their hotel rooms, messy hallways, eyebrow-raising toilets, and cider-coloured water that has come from a tap.

One caveat, though, while reading about the Olympic mishaps on @SochiProblems: the account rarely attributes the source of the images, which in turn makes their accuracy questionable. So enjoy them with a dose of scepticism, perhaps.

Behold here some of the best of the bad to appear on @SochiProblems:
