‘Happy Thanksgiving’ will likely be trending on Twitter for the next 24 hours as those in the US and abroad send their best wishes for the American holiday, with tweets featuring turkey, pilgrims and Miley Cyrus.

Thanksgiving – or Turkey Day, as it’s also unofficially known – is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in the US (the Canadian holiday takes place in October). While it has its religious roots, it’s largely a secular holiday based on celebrating a good harvest by sitting down to a feast. And sure who wouldn’t be thankful to have a Christmas dinner twice a year?

Thanks to social media, it’s easy to celebrate this holiday with friends abroad and, not only is ‘Happy Thanksgiving’ trending worldwide, it’s also the top trend in Ireland.

Here are some of our favourite Thanksgiving tweets collected from Twitter today.
