Just a day after meeting US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the creators of the Texts From Hillary internet meme said they will no longer be updating the website.

Washington-based communications advisers Adam Smith and Stacy Lambe met Clinton on Tuesday, after her staff contacted them to say she found their site on Tumblr hilarious.

Texts From Hillary features photos of politicians or celebrities on mobile devices, with a caption of what their text message to Clinton would be. Beneath that is a photo of a serious-looking Clinton on a military plane checking her BlackBerry, with a caption of what her response to the text message would be.

Now, having met Clinton herself at the state department, “we think it’s time to stop while we are ahead”, Smith and Lambe said in a message posted on their site.

“As far as memes go – it has gone as far as it can go. Is it really possible to top a submission from the Secretary herself? No. But then when you get to text with her in real life – it’s just over. At least for us. But we have no doubt it will live on with all of you on the Internet,” the message reads.

Smith and Lambe added that Texts From Hillary will remain online but they won’t be posting any new material.
