New apps coming to Samsung’s Microsoft Surface device

Samsung has launched new apps for its Samsung SUR40 for Microsoft Surface, a 40-inch touchscreen display for business and public sectors.

The Microsoft Surface platform aims to allow people to interact and collaborate using Samsung’s 40-inch touchscreen full HD display in business and public-sector environments. Its PixelSense technology responds to fingers and real-world objects and supports more than 50 simultaneous inputs.

Samsung and Microsoft have worked with application developers to create apps for the platform specifically aimed at the retail, finance, travel, hospitality, automotive and education sectors. Partners include Black Marble, Razorfish, Infusion, Intuilab, After-Mouse and Xface.

“We have already received huge interest from organisations that are keen to integrate Samsung SUR40 for Microsoft Surface into their space,” said Phil Gaut, general manager of Display at Samsung UK.

“As the product and applications can be customised for specific needs, the opportunities really are endless. We are extremely excited by the applications that have been created by our partners and look forward to the next developments,” he said.

A number of businesses plan to use this technology to engage with customers. For example, Aéroports de Paris in France will use the display at their Paris-Orly and Paris-Charles de Gaulle airports for entertainment for passengers waiting in boarding lounges.

Fujifilm said it will use it as a digital imaging kiosk for retailers, allowing consumers to design and print their own photobooks.
