Strencom signs €300k data deals to connect three county councils
Cork-based internet service and cloud provider Strencom has signed contracts valued at more than €300,000 to connect Cork, Monaghan and Roscommon county councils to the Government Data Network.
The Government Data Network links together all public bodies in Ireland.
The Strencom rollout provides the councils with a 20-fold increase in bandwdith.
Strencom CEO Tim Murphy said the company won the tenders on the strength of its technology and previous experience.
The Government network is at the heart of providing e-government services to Irish local authorities. It was designed primarily to facilitate easy, efficient, secure and reliable communication between Government agencies and to support existing and future Government applications.
UTV plc acquires social media agency Simply Zesty
Simply Zesty, a social media agency sparked by an online conversation and begun in a spare bedroom three years ago, has been acquired by TV and internet player UTV plc for about stg£1.7m, potentially rising to stg£5m, depending upon future trading performance.
“We are incredibly excited about what the acquisition will bring for us,” Zesty said in its blog.
“We see this as a huge opportunity to continue to aggressively grow the business, with UTV’s backing. As for our clients and readers it will pretty much be business as usual. We will continue to trade as Simply Zesty in our current office, with all the added benefits of being under the UTV umbrella.”
It is understood that UTV intends to include Simply Zesty in its portfolio of traditional and new media services.
Standard Life inks €35.7m comms outsourcing contract with BT
Standard Life is outsourcing its communications network to BT in a five-year deal valued at €35.7m.
The contract will see BT take over managing the savings and investments provider’s communications infrastructure. It also gives the financial services operator access to a range of professional services. It also hopes the deal will enhance the overall level of service provided to customers.
The agreement includes delivery and management of a BT Connect local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN). It will also cover IP telephony, contact centres, contract management, service management and moving the infrastructure to BT’s IP Connect network.
