Utah-headquartered online discount retailer Overstock.com is to create 45 new jobs in Sligo as part of an IDA-backed investment.
The company, which employs 1,300 people worldwide, is to establish a technology group in Sligo.
Overstock.com started up in 1999 and sells a broad range of goods, ranging from furniture to electronics, clothing and cars.
“Overstock is an ambitious, dynamic and technology-led company that is excited about the potential that Sligo and Ireland offers,” said Steve Tyson, Overstock.com’s senior vice-president in charge of Human Capital Management and International Business.
“The Irish development team will be involved centrally in many existing activities and will lead several new initiatives associated with our international expansion,” he added.
Ireland’s Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton, TD, said it is vital to support job creation across the entire country.
“We have put in place a number of measures to deliver on this, including the Succeed in Ireland scheme, which has seen the delivery of multinational investment to regional locations which would not normally come onto the radar of IDA companies.
“Today’s announcement that leading online retailer Overstock.com is to establish a key technology group here, with the creation of more than 45 jobs in Sligo, is great news for the north-west, and is a significant endorsement of both Sligo and Ireland in delivering the needs of multinational companies,” Bruton added.
IDA Ireland CEO Barry O’Leary said Sligo is one of Ireland’s gateway locations.
“IDA Ireland markets Ireland’s gateway locations to companies across the world. Companies like Overstock.com are mobile investors and the availability of the right staff in the software development sector is a key attraction to Sligo,” he said.
