Bitbuzz reports 76pc increase in registered users

31 Jul 2013

Wi-Fi operator Bitbuzz reported a 76pc rise in the number of registered users year over year, rising from 858,200 last year to 1.5m at the end of June.

The company attributes the substantial rise to its complementary outdoor Wi-Fi service Bitbuzz Freedom service in Dublin, Cork and Killarney.

The total number of bitbuzzz Wi-Fi hotspots at the end of June was 466, up 13pc.

The service is now available in over 11,500 hotel bedrooms across Ireland and the UK.

The company saw monthly logins rise 37pc year-on-year to 550,000, resulting in 10,000 logins per day.

The average amount of data downloaded per month per user is now 36MB.

CEO Shane Deasy said the Bitbuzz Freedom product was a direct response to the growth in smartphone usage.
